I am a male player with a female character.
But I am not looking out for romance or intimacy with that character, after all, she is a death knight and would give her partner frostbite.

My first female character that I played was in 1997 in a chat and message board forum of CompuServe. She first was a NPC, a replacement for another NPC-turned PC. Of course she too turned into a played character over time. Everyone in that forum knew who played her, and noone cared.

Am I gay? Well, I am a firm believer in the Kinsey scale, but I would be a 0.5. Which means, I am heterosexual but agree that, under the right circumstances, I could have a homosexual relationship.
However! This is not the reason why I play female characters. I would rather think that a male homosexual would rather play a male homosexual character, instead of someone whose gender he is not. Being homosexual does not mean one wishes to be of the other gender. It means one is not attracted to the other gender but to the own.

Do I think that WOW in the USA will be next? Not at all.

I don't really think it's about gay or straight, really.

It's about really lonely, socially awkward, probably relatively young (at least younger than us old people) males hoping against hope that the female character on the screen is a reflection of the player behind the pixels. "Woah! A hawt female toon. I'm sure it has to be a hot female player. Maybe she'll talk to me. She can't see me. But she can see my my muscley computer generated avatar, and he has epix!"

The awkward fellow then spends (way too much) time trying to hang out with, chat with, hit on and otherwise embarrass themself in front of the hawt female toon. I hate to bring down walls here, but there are some people who purposely create hawt female toons with the express purpose of exploiting the awkward fellows willing to get loot, cash, guild position; all at the low low cost of a little digital flirting.

And upon finding out that this "hawt female toon" is really a fellow with the same social, physical and/or mental shortcomings, they get hostile and defensive about their actions, question their own motives or sexuality.

I'm still not sure why people are concerned about sexuality in a MMO world. Maybe I'm just out of the loop or maybe I don't care because I'm not trying to have sex with my WoW friends. If you're a tank, and manage to keep the nasties from eating my face, I don't care if you're really a chick that likes chicks. And if you toss me a heal or two when I get stupid and try to face-tank the nasty myself, I don't care if you're a dude that likes dudes. And if you want to make a hawt orc chick mudwrastle a hawt troll chick in durotar, I don't care who's pulling the strings, I'm tossin gold!

Well, it might be some time coming, because I have a core rule book to illustrate, a paper miniatures game to finish designing, commissions to complete, a webcomic to plan and christmas presents to paint...

Hawt Tauren chicks are more like the nice girls you'd take home to mom. I really can't see one mud wrastlin' for our amuzement.

I'm not opposed though. I still have that "Ladies of the AC" calander somewhere around here. I'll have to dig it up someday.
