That is pretty funny, but sort of a stupid argument. Most guys who just play a female toon and do not RP just want to see some half dressed tail running around all day as they play.

Guys who actually RP out a female char, is a more firm argument, but still really stupid.

So all male authors who write female characters are gay?
Cos... If you follow that line of thinking, that's how far it goes.

There is no truth to that company's assertion that female toon + male player = gay. It's not even close to arguable.

I know numerous straight men (or "straight enough" anyway) who play female toons and even RP with them. It doesn't threaten or damage their straightness in any way.

And, I've known numerous gay men throughout my life, and none of them have pretended online to be female nor dress as women IRL to attract men. It wouldn't work. Gay men like men, as in, someone who looks, sounds, smells masculine. (Now, some of them *have* dressed as women to perform on stage, but anyway). Why would someone take on a feminine appearance to attract someone who likes men?

There is absolutely no truth to the assertion that male players who RP or simply play female characters are homosexual.

I am not homosexual and have a toon I RP with that is female. Now I would not go so far as to say that it isn't likely that a higher percentage of homosexual males who play may choose to roll a female character but this certainly wouldn't establish a generalization that ALL males who play female characters are homosexual. The assumption that simply choosing to play a female character automatically means your homosexual is simply ludicrous.

The real issue here is about control. Fear tactics, misinformation and hatred, all aimed at keeping a population in line.
This isn't new, not at all. In the Western world, you WILL find people who will agree with what this company is saying and doing. I hate to bring up religion here, but that's part of the way humans have tried to reinforce various opinions and rules upon society, and China is a great example.
They crack down on anything to do with sex, basically. And I am certain that if all of us do some looking around, not even very much, we will find the same behaviour in our own countries. It's not always based on religion, but its always based on fear and the need to control.

So, certain countries are a bit behind when it comes to accepting human sexuality in all its myriad, mercurial forms. But the world is changing. So, lets not slam the crap out of one country while we know the same crap is happening in our own. Its a totally rediculous theory they've got going on there, but its not new, and people's minds CAN be changed. Usually by good examples.

When I first started roleplaying, it was in a MUD called Cosrin, where I spent time roleplaying various characters both male and female. I roleplayed friendships, relationships, intimacy, adversarial conflict...all for the sake of telling a good story — developed a characters goals, their fears, their flaws.

When I came to the wonderful World of Warcraft I was thrilled to begin roleplaying a character I could see. It never dawned on me that another player could expect anything from me other than a good story and an intriguing character to roleplay with.

I was shocked and a bit disgusted the first time I formed a close relationship with another player and they began both divulging personal information I had no interest in knowing, and demanding the same personal divulgence from me.

I was saddened the first time a character shunned me when they had a decent idea about what the player behind the character was like, regardless of how much fun we'd had roleplaying.

And don't get me started on the whole "find your myspace/facebook and link it to everyone else with the vain hope of earning some level of e-fame for exposing some sort of scandal" thing.

So yeah. This is just another example of the horrible depravity people can sink to and just how appalled I am that people consider enacting such invasions of both privacy and creativity.

I am confused about... 2 of those 6 paragraphs and their relevancy.
Specifically these 2.

Do you mean people digging for information about your gender and sexual preference?

And where I live, and what university I'm at. And if I'd want to meet. And if I'd ever consider <insert your kink here>. And what I look like. What color hair I have in real life. What my weight is. Do I have pictures. Would I like to voice chat.

The list goes on and on.
