Hmm, I could see the argument that RP in WoW is like LARPing, in that the avatar has pretty much the same "physical" constraints as a LARPer. That is, a lot of it comes down to one's ability to pretend in /emotes (and /roll, if it comes down to contests of chance), and express or portray events or actions far beyond what we're actually seeing.

My humble opinions on recent topics of conversation:
RP however you want, however, do not expect the community to accept your RP. The further you step outside of established lore and 'normality' the higher number of people who wont' have interest in RP with you. Some of the folks who like to RP as dragons are good friends of mine, I like to read their stories. But rarely take part in much of their RP because it doesn't really make sense to me in the context of the world. Some people may have issues with one of my characters that I RP as a shadow ascendant, this falls under the same lines and I do not expect everyone to recognize stories that involve him. I try extremely hard to avoid combat in RP for several reasons. Unless there is a consensus and agreement about someone's 'strength', especially outside of previously existing OOC relationships there are no 'rules' for how the conflict gets resolved. The only 'fair' solution is dueling, but this restricts people from RPing lower level characters. Also, there are gear differences etc that have little to do with RP. So because it's difficult to do reliably, I avoid direct combat unless it's previously been arranged... -------------------- |

Hell among my characters I have an old salty sea orc who'd sooner get a restraining order on a pirate than fight... a feeble old man who's afraid of gophers, his own shadow, and more or less everything... and one that I'm about to bring out and start playing... Allethea "THE HARVESTER!" (She's a damned farmer. XD)
My solution to deciding who wins in an RP fight: Be different. Lose. Hehe -------------------- Ituha Yanisin - Spirit Guide of the Ani Ayastigi
Kajsza Sunbough - Half Vrykul Bard and Engineer Katak - Scout of the Orc Clan, Riht Lokgra - Fleet Admiral of the Silver Sea Cartel Gipeto - Senile Undead Piper Allethea - Farmer and Merchant |

"Example... once a week a collective group organizes of Alliance and Horde who've gotten tired of kicking eachother's asses constantly and agree to work together on certain threats. So meeting is in Undercity, Zoft comes disguised as a BE.
Pick out a "DM" for the event. Run an IC adventure, in a dungeon to deal with some threat that should be handled by both sides. Or just sitting around. Or just have a talk about tactics and the state of the world." I really really like this idea and have several characters who would participate. Feel free to hit me up via forum or in game mail or whatever to arrange something. Also, to the person who called out to SCA people... I'm one. Though really I'm only in it for the horses and medieval games/jousting. Oh, and heavy mounted combat. But even there I've noticed there isn't so much RP as it is picking a persona, developing a warddrobe and it never gets further than that. It's probably one of the reasons I still don't have a period name within the group and don't really feel a need to have one. -------------------- Xanedae Sunshadow - Warlock, Alchemist, mother
Kairene Bloodsworn - Blood Knight, tough cookie Alamea Firesong - Child, Shadowling Gydgit, Tinkerer and Exploder of Murlocs - Fire Mage, <Agency> Fydgit, Long lost sister, Death Knight <Agency> Taram ???, warlock <Agency> Windcaller Amahra - Shaman and <Pirate> Besloo, Giver of Hugs - Mage Anila - Rogue, Mercenary for hire Chantrea - Druid Chaise and Ottoman, a comfortable <Furniture> set Vieraghar Sunshadow - Deathknight Timothe, PVP twink, warlock and ghost from the past Or...
