Don't move. Don't even breathe. I am a plank in the wall. I am a shadow among shadows. I don't even exist. Please.
She couldn't believe her heartbeat wasn't audible even above the wind from her wings. Perhaps it even was. Perhaps she was simply considered - insignificant. The dragon shrunk, incredibly, and a strikingly beautiful human woman strolled through the gate and out of sight. Every muscle in Baby's body seemed locked and trembled, then suddenly she was running, not even thinking about it, tearing through the swamp, heedless of the bushes that scratched her face and hair, although her leathers protected the rest of her. No thought, no plan, mere panic drove her now, fleeing until Mudsprocket was far out of sight, running so fast even the crocodiles she disturbed in the narrow inlets were too surprised to give chase. A glimmer of reason snapped her back to her senses and she dived beneath a tree root as she spied two patrolling black dragonkin. She shook with the effort not to pant so loudly she gave away her location, spots appearing before her eyes by the time they were gone. She stood, catching her breath, then continued running, albeit a bit slower, looking around now. There was nothing else but the local wildlife - inimical enough. Eventually she stopped, leaning against a tree. As she caught her breath she took stock of her situation. Would Deren'eth be angered enough to chase her down? Maybe - if the dragon didn't eat him. Or maybe that was enough "commotion" that she'd be forgiven for her flight. Maybe he didn't really care anyway and had just wanted her not to interfere. Well she had other concerns now. Her ankle was aching - not bad enough to not walk on it, but enough to cause concern. Her clothes were muddy and damp from a fall she'd taken during her flight. It was getting dark. She couldn't go back to Mudsprocket now even if she knew where it was and - "I'm lost," she murmured aloud, realizing it to be true. Lost - and no one knew where she might be aside from an infamous cold-blooded killer. Great. Well, she'd survived worse. She rambled a bit further through the swamp, unknowingly turning north, until she found a likely patch of high ground with a sheltering tree. Stripped the damp leathers to the mostly dry underthings. Tried to make a makeshift tent. It sort of worked. She checked her pouch - she'd lived on this little food for a solid week before, in the bad days. If she lasted a week. If Deren'eth didn't find her and kill her to keep her silent, if the dragon didn't hunt her down, if a crocodile didn't eat her. Don't think of that now. Get through the night. She settled down in the swamp grass, trying to rest. Ignored the biting insects as best she could. Swallowed a few bites of food and made herself put the rest away. Water might be a problem out here. Bad scene. She didn't really know a thing about swamp survival. Her bad luck. Too dark to do anything now but remain a shadow. She focused on nothing more than the idea that she wasn't even there. Blended in with her surroundings. Her specialty. Eventually she managed sleep, of a sort. -------------------- |

Upon hearing the specific way Llewellyn Floyd wished to have his "message" delivered, Deren'eth Moonwhisper nodded curtly.
"And since 'name your price' is doublespeak for 'I really didn't mean that,' and as I do owe your employee one job, I will be off. You will know when it is finished, and then," Deren'eth stared meaningfully at Lian, "we will be square." Moonwhisper turned to leave the shack without another word, then paused. -------------------- |

The woman in the purple gown smiled; her smile was as friendly and inviting as a pointed gun. "Deren'eth Moonwhisper, I presume. It is a pleasure. I am Lady Katrana Prestor."
