How does King Varian figure that the Horde has cost the Alliance more than the Scourge? I mean, the Scourge killed all of the humans in half a continent. The Horde sacked Stormwind. What they did to the countryside of Azeroth (the kingdom) in the First War was unpleasant, yes, but not as devastating as what the Scourge did to Lordaeron and Arathor.

I actually don't like it. I couldn't get a hold of what they were saying because the animation bugged me. :/

He probably means Fordragon and the troops at the Wrathgate specifically, but it's not as if the old Horde stopped at Stormwind. They attacked Kul Tiras and went on a rampage in Lordaeron and Quel'Thalas and tore apart much of Dalaran too.

Also, Varian is an obnoxiously histrionic bitch and you shouldn't take what he says too seriously.

So wait. You support the Night Elves for attacking Grom and razing his entire encampment without so much as a word, because he unknowingly began chopping down lumber that is sacred to them or something, even though Cenarius can apparently instantly regrow anyway, but you hate Wrynn because he holds a grudge against the Horde for unknowingly funding and supporting a legion-supported organization hellbent on wiping out the living stationed about a stone's throw away from Sylvanas' throne room?

Lore hypocrisy. I'm declaring lore hypocrisy.

From the Oath forums:
QUOTE (Me)
Old [Comic] Varian: "I. Am. Awesome. I'm SO awesome, I solo'd Onyxia at 70. I'm so awesome, she had to split my awesomeness into two just to contain it!"

New [WoW] Varian: "All orcs look the same to me! I enjoy blaming orcs for things! I was treated poorly by an orc once! I'm incapable of making informed distinctions between attacks made against both the Alliance AND the Horde as compared to attacks made against the Alliance BY the Horde! Did I mention this is all the orcs' fault? Man, why's Jaina gotta be all up in my grill? I bet she has a crush on Thrall. And thusly, I must destroy the orcs."

I think that's being unfair to Varian. The orcs & Horde ARE responsible for a lot of atrocities since they came to Azeroth. He's definitely being an idiot, but at least he has a reason for hating the Horde, unlike Garrosh who just likes to make war. And Thrall named him leader of the Northrend expedition? NICE JOB THRALL

I don't necessarily object to his ridiculous hatred of the Horde, only his complete and total reversal of character from the comics. The character that was powerful, noble, and clear-thinking in the comics was turned whiny, emo, and blinded by hatred in-game.

I still that it's a fair assessment - I certainly don't think he's any better or worse than Garrosh (whom I also dislike). It's pretty clear that Garrosh and Varian are supposed to be cut from the same idiotic, short-sighted cloth (that is, to steal someone else's verbiage, they are focused only on their own suffering and experience) which is drastically different from that of the forward-thinking Jaina and Thrall.

I'm pretty sure this is intentional: these events have made them the "bad guys" in these new "morally ambiguous" factions with which the Loremasters have presented us, contrasted by everything good and noble in Thraina (I figure they deserve one of those tabloid combo-names by now).
